Annual Reviews

The RBF’s Annual Reviews provide readers with annual highlights of the Fund’s programs, grantmaking, and finances as a reflection of our commitment to accountability, transparency, and sustainability. Each year, we focus on an issue central to the Fund's mission.

1993

Chairman Abby O'Neill highlights key developments at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund including the 35th anniversary of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation in the 1993 annual review. A message from President Colin G. Campbell discusses the RBF's strategy for dealing with environmental concerns and raising awareness about the responsible use of natural resources across the globe.

1992

The 1992 annual review includes a message from Chairman Abby O’Neill on key developments at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund including its growing relationship with the Asian Cultural Council.  A message from President Colin G. Campbell discusses the challenges of and strategies for supporting public school education reform. 

1991

The 1991 annual review includes a message from Chairman David Rockefeller Jr. announcing key developments of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund including a ten-day trip by the Fund's trustees and senior staff to visit grantees in central Europe.  A message from President Colin G. Campbell outlines ways in which the RBF is committed to helping east-central European countries handle political, economic, and societal challenges.

1990

The Rockefeller Brothers Fund celebrates the beginning of its 50th anniversary year in this 1990 annual review. Chairman David Rockefeller Jr. takes a look back at how the Fund first began at the family's home in Pocantico Hills and discusses how the Fund has evolved over the years.  Also included, is a message from President Colin G. Campbell noting the RBF's many accomplishments.

1989

Colin G. Campbell is recognized for successfully completing his first year as the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s new president in the 1989 annual report. Campbell offers his first message, highlighting ways in which the RBF's One World program responded to political, social, and economic changes and challenges across the globe.

1988

Chairman David Rockefeller Jr. and President Colin G. Campbell both took office this year and made the transition into their respective leadership roles. An introductory essay in the 1988 annual report highlights strides made by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in areas of public education, arts education, and sustainable agriculture. 

1987

Chairman David Rockefeller, one of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund's founders, offered a special message in the 1987 annual report as he prepared to retire.  Chairman Rockefeller, who was succeeded in office by his son, David Jr., reflected on his family's long tradition of philanthropy dating back to the first efforts of his grandfather who used his wealth to establish three institutions of higher learning.

1986

The 1986 annual report centers on East Asia and its growing significance in the world economy Dr. Han Sung-joo, a professor at Korea University, Seoul and the 1986 Rockefeller Brothers Fund Distinguished Fellow, examines East-West relations and the changing balance of world power.

1985

The 1985 annual report explores the attitudes, behaviors, and motivations behind charitable behavior. The article highlights a national survey, underwritten by the Rockerfeller Brothers Fund, which researched the giving habits of more than a thousand people. The objective was to discover how individuals across the country can be stimulated to incorporate the practice of giving into their lives.

1984

The 1984 annual report features an essay by Dr. Francis M. Deng, the first Rockefeller Brothers Fund Distinguished Fellow. The article focuses on the process of nation-building in Africa and the inherent ability of its people to be resourceful in overcoming their own political, social, and economic challenges.
