Annual Reviews

The RBF’s Annual Reviews provide readers with annual highlights of the Fund’s programs, grantmaking, and finances as a reflection of our commitment to accountability, transparency, and sustainability. Each year, we focus on an issue central to the Fund's mission.

2003

The 2003 Annual Review includes a message from President Stephen Heintz on the role of foundations in democratic society and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund's responsibility with regard to transparency, accountability, and effective governance.  This annual review also includes a message from the Chair Steven Rockefeller, as well as our financial report and program updates.

2002

In the 2002 Annual Review, Chairman Steven Rockefeller and President Stephen Heintz discuss the Fund's completion of a two-and-a-half-year strategic review process, resulting in the adoption of a redesigned program architecture.

2001

The 2001 Annual Review includes a message from President Stephen Heintz in which he reflects on the work of the RBF during the previous year, comments on the terrorist attacks of September 11th, and offers thoughts on the direction of the RBF.  This annual review also includes a message from the Chair Steven Rockefeller, as well as our Financial Report and Program updates.

2000

The 2000 Annual Review includes a message from Chairman Steven Rockefeller, as well as a report from the Management Committee, our financial report, and program updates.

1999

The 1999 Annual Review includes a message from President Colin G. Campbell on key developments at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, including the merger between the RBF and the Charles E. Culpeper Foundation.

1998

The 1998 annual report includes an in-depth essay from Chairman Steven Rockefeller highlighting key developments at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, including the organization's relocation to a new environmentally responsible headquarters.  The report also notes, the RBF’s largest grantmaking efforts made in the areas of environmental protection and sustainable development, and the Fund’s educational efforts in both New York and South Africa.

1997

"Opportunities" is the theme of Chairman Abby O'Neill's message in the 1997 annual review. Chairman O'Neill, whose tenure came to a close this year, reflects on how the Rockefeller Brothers Fund best utilized the opportunities to learn and make an impact to advance its work. Also included, is an essay by President Colin G. Campbell on the value of forging partnerships with other organizations.

1996

Chairman Abby O'Neill reasons that family foundations have a responsibility to the American public to not just "do good" but to do it "well" in an essay in the 1996 annual review.  Also, President Colin G. Campbell takes a look at how responsible philanthropy means "finding balance" between the various aspects involved in the grantmaking process.

1995

The 1995 annual review includes a message from President Colin G. Campbell discussing the Rockefeller Brother Fund's "Project on World Security."  Also highlighted are the RBF's many innovative grantees including Solar Electric Light Fund, which received a Sustainable Resource Use grant for equipping homes in developing countries with electricity through the use of solar panels.

1994

Chairman Abby O'Neill discusses key developments at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, including the opening of the Pocantico Conference Center and the RBF's strong commitment to environmental preservation, in the 1994 annual review. President Colin G. Campbell addresses the necessity of providing continued support and attention to the nonprofit sector.
