RBF Welcomes Four New Trustees

The Rockefeller Brothers Fund announced today that Carlos Alvarado Quesada, former president of Costa Rica; Janai Nelson, president of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund;  Robin Strawbridge, vice president of the Fleishhacker Foundation; and Henry Timms, president and CEO of Lincoln Center have been elected to its board of trustees.

“This new class of trustees and committee members reflects a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, learned and lived expertise, and exceptional achievements spanning the Fund’s broad program interests,” said Stephen Heintz, RBF president and CEO. “It is an honor to have this remarkable talent joining the RBF at this pivotal moment for the future of democracy, our planet, and international relations to help us advance our vision of a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world.”

Carlos Alvarado Quesada

Carlos Alvarado Quesada served as the president of the Republic of Costa Rica from 2018 to 2022, when his constitutionally-limited term ended. Under Alvarado’s leadership, Costa Rica contributed to global efforts to combat climate change and defend human rights, democracy, and multilateralism. 

Janai Nelson

Janai S. Nelson is president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF), a premier civil rights law organization fighting for racial justice and equality since 1940. Nelson formerly served as LDF’s associate director-counsel and has helped steward LDF through a period of unprecedented expansion. 

Robin Strawbridge

Robin Strawbridge is a San Francisco native who began her career in fine arts, working at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice, the John Berggruen Gallery in San Francisco, and Christie’s Auction House in New York City. She transitioned to fashion and served as the managing editor of the J. Crew catalog and as a director of advertising at Gap, Inc. 

Henry Timms

Henry Timms is president and CEO of Lincoln Center—the world’s leading performing arts center, encompassing 10 organizations, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, and New York City Ballet. 


The RBF also welcomes Ian Fuller, cofounder and CEO of Westfuller; Jason Lamin, founder and CEO of Lenox Park Solutions; and Monali Vora, head of wealth investment solutions at Goldman Sachs Asset Management to its Investment Committee.
