Since 1986, Public Policy and Education Fund of New York (PPEFNY) has worked to advance economic, racial, environmental, and social justice by mobilizing residents across the state to take action and change the balance of power.
PPEFNY helps amplify the voices of everyday New Yorkers in local, state, and federal governance and policy. Through year-round canvassing that prioritizes hard-to-reach communities, it promotes voter registration and offers opportunities for people to engage in the political process and weigh in on policy priorities. Its efforts have contributed to concrete policy wins like New York State’s progressive income tax plan, which has increased resources for affordable housing and childcare, public campaign financing, and other programs that benefit working families.
PPEFNY also provides training and other educational resources to help voters, leaders, and the media understand the laws, technologies, and narratives that shape democracy and navigate public resources, such as the Public Campaign Finance program and the New York State Healthcare Marketplace.
Hosted in collaboration with Citizen Action of NY, the PPEFNY Worldview Workshops examine how people understand the world around them. Using history and data, and recognizing language choices and patterns, the workshops reveal misinformation and introduce new perspectives about inequality, the American economy, and the criminal legal system.
