What is Mission-Aligned Investing? Two Minutes with Valerie Rockefeller

After decades of philanthropic efforts to address climate change, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund confronted the moral tension between funding solutions to global warming on the one hand, with investing in fossil fuel companies on the other. So in 2010, the Fund began taking steps to align its investment portfolio with its mission of advancing a just, sustainable, and peaceful world. Today, the Fund is working toward a portfolio allocation target of 20 percent for impact investments.

“The fun part is to invest...in energy efficiency, clean energy, renewables, clean infrastructure,” as Valerie Rockefeller, chair of the Rockefeller Brothers fund, explains in this short video.“We really want to make the case that you can make money by aligning your investments with your values.”
