Wesleyan Media Project Shares Latest Analysis on Campaign Advertising Spending

Barack Obama has overtaken Mitt Romney in advertising in 14 of the top 15 media markets in the country, according to analysis recently released by the Wesleyan Media Project, an RBF grantee. The report also examines the tone in advertising by the favored candidate during presidential election campaigns since 2000. The 2012 presidential campaign has been the most negative since 2000; since June 1, only 14 percent of ads aired were positive, compared with 54 percent in 2000, 35 percent in 2004, and 32 percent in 2008.
