Report Examines Nonprofits’ Role in Strengthening Democracy

Civic Engagement: The Next Chapter sheds light on the critical role human service organizations play in strengthening democracy in the United States by developing and supporting an engaged and active citizenry. The report was released by the Alliance for Children and Families, an RBF grantee, and its sister organization United Neighborhood Centers of America.

In the report, civic engagement is defined as “a process where by people and organizations purposefully interact and work together with their neighbors, fellow community members, other organizations, decision makers, and administrators to create positive community, institutional, or policy change.” Civic Engagement: The Next Chapter was made possible through support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, as well as writing facilitation by Matt Leighninger, executive director of the Deliberative Democracy Consortium.
