Nelson Rockefeller’s Picasso Tapestries Go on Loan to the San Antonio Museum of Art

Fourteen of the Picasso tapestries commissioned by Governor Nelson Rockefeller are on loan to the San Antonio Museum of Art for a special exhibition through March 8, 2015. The handwoven tapestries are on view together for the first time outside of the Rockefeller family estate, allowing for an unprecedented opportunity for audiences to observe the colors and details of the scaled-up recreations, keeping with the egalitarian spirit of Nelson Rockefeller’s passion for art and education. Although the enormous tapestries—modeled after paintings from over 50 years of Pablo Picasso's lifetime—are usually on display in Kykuit's basement galleries, the home is closed to the public during the winter months.

Kykuit, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is a part of The Pocantico Center, which is operated and maintained by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
