European Foundation Centre Examines Operating Environment for Foundations in Western Balkans

The European Foundation Centre (EFC) has released a paper comparing and analyzing the current landscape for public-benefit foundations and nonprofits in six countries of the Western Balkans. The EFC’s European Center for Non-Profit Law published the report, contrasting the legal and monetary nuances of foundation work in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. The paper aims to clarify the legal requirements for establishing and maintaining endowments in the Western Balkans to strengthen  local foundations. It also compares the laws in the countries of the Western Balkans to the rest of Europe to allow foreign foundations to more easily understand new laws and local requirements.
