Lost Light Projects’ InsideClimate News (ICN) is the largest dedicated environmental newsroom in the nation, covering clean energy, carbon emissions, environmental science, and how related laws, policies, and public perceptions are shaped. The publication and its journalists have earned national recognition for their work. In 2013, three of its journalists were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for their reporting on an oil spill in the Kalamazoo River in Michigan. In 2016, ICN reporters were again nominated for the prize, this time for Public Service, for Exxon: The Road Not Taken, a nine-part series that helped spark the #ExxonKnew campaign. The investigation exposed how the company manufactured doubt about the scientific consensus on climate change that its own researchers had confirmed.

ICN partners with both national and local media outlets and acts as a force multiplier of climate journalism across the country. It operates reporting hubs in Louisville, KY; Columbus, OH; Salt Lake City, UT; and Berkeley, CA, and has built a network of more than 50 partner outlets. In 2021, ICN launched an environmental justice reporting project focused on the intersection of climate change and social and racial injustice.
