The Pocantico Center Opens

In 1994, the RBF opened its Pocantico Conference Center in the renovated coach barn of the Kykuit estate, formerly the home to four generations of the Rockefeller family, in Westchester County, New York. The Center is a venue for conferences on critical issues related to the Fund’s mission. It is also a community resource with public programs including tours, lectures, and cultural events. In collaboration with the Charles E. Culpeper Arts & Culture Program, the Center offers residencies to artists and shares the creative process with the public through on-site performances, readings, and exhibits. The Fund’s stewardship of the Pocantico Historic Area includes overseeing the care and conservation of Kykuit’s historic buildings, gardens, and collections of fine and decorative art. The Center has been managed by the RBF since 1991 as part of its agreement with  The National Trust for Historic Preservation. This was the result of many years of careful consideration of the most enduring and beneficial uses of the property. The Trust acquired ownership of the property in 1979 when Nelson Rockefeller bequeathed it to the Trust. In 2007, the Trust acquired additional property in a bequest from Laurance Rockefeller.
