The RBF established its Peacebuilding program in 2011 to advance “just and durable peace." A distinctive feature of the program has been its joint focus on conflict prevention and conflict transformation. Some grantmaking priorities will evolve amid shifts in domestic and global contexts.

The RBF Democratic Practice–Global Challenges guidelines more clearly emphasize the program’s commitment to social and environmental justice.

 

The last review of the Western Balkans program, in 2019, described a region in transition. Five years later, the region still faces challenges. Recognizing both the region’s challenges and signs of progress, the Western Balkans program has made minor adjustments to its grantmaking guidelines.

The program will retire its strategy focused on indigenous philanthropy and add a new strategy to build the capacity of Chinese partners in support of China’s constructive role in global climate and environmental governance. 

A key component of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund's commitment to transparency is regularly participating in the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) Grantee Perception Report and publishing the results.

The RBF has revised the Money in Politics strategy to support innovations in systems and practices to strengthen equality of representation.

Revisions to the Culpeper Arts & Culture program guidelines emphasize community building and social impact, prioritize artist-centered and multidisciplinary work, advance the Fund’s anti-racist and anti-sexist commitments, ensure attention to accessibility, and celebrate innovation and artistic excellence.

Our new program guidelines reflect a region with both serious challenges but also powerful positive forces making brave efforts for democracy, sustainability, and human rights.

The Peacebuilding program team took inspiration from a wide range of peacebuilders. Some are internationally acclaimed figures, others are the less well-known but equally inspiring partners whom the Peacebuilding staff is privileged to work with and learn from.

A new Western Balkans program team examined the current state of affairs in the region and recalibrated our grantmaking guidelines to prioritize democratic practice and peacebuilding efforts.
