Kosovo

Journalism in Kosovo is changing. Once dominated by a handful of state-affiliated television stations and tabloids, the media landscape is beginning to expand with the emergence of new generation of dogged online journalists.

Enter Kosovo 2.0. Its network of freelance writers, photographers, videographers, thinkers, and activists report in three languages—Albanian, Serbian, and English—to help audiences understand and take action on the political and economic challenges impacting their lives.

More than an online magazine, Kosovo 2.0 promotes creative production, human rights, media freedoms, and inclusive participation. Its education programs engage the community, particularly youth, to build media and tech literacy, strengthen the practice of journalism, challenge dominant narratives, and uplift marginalized stories. In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, its 2020 HOPE media carnival brought together hundreds of journalists, activists, researchers, civil society actors, media professionals, and others for socially-distanced discussion on cultivating openness, challenging ingrained socio-political inequalities, and sharing new visions for hope in the region.
