“The artists in A Palo Seco go far beyond showcasing their great musical and dance talent—they offer the experience of being transported by something deep and powerful stirring inside.” —New York Theater Wire

A Palo Seco is a New York-based flamenco company that strives to develop a unique voice, employing its dancers’ expertise while taking into account the context in which they live. Its work exposes audiences to a new way of looking at flamenco, combining traditional techniques with a modern, metropolitan flare.

The company will perform a work-in-process showing of Fieras, a production inspired by women who have survived and thrived after experiencing domestic violence. Fieras was created with support from an ArtsWestchester “Voices for Change” grant, which supported a collaboration between A Palo Seco artistic director Rebecca Tomas and Hope’s Door, a domestic violence advocacy organization and shelter located in Westchester County. The poignant performance draws from Tomas’ interviews with Hope’s Door staff and survivors of domestic violence.

The performance will be followed by a conversation with Tomas and staff members of Hope’s Door, as well as a reception with special access to the DR Center gallery, currently showing Portraits of Process.
