Dancer and musician joseph webb, a recipient of the 2024–2025 YoungArts Fellowship, presents excerpts from prayers for a hopeless romantic: lovers rock. This work-in-process celebrates and honors the birth of the lovers rock reggae era through musical theatre conventions; tap dance, reggae music, and spoken word.

The performance will be followed by a discussion with the hopeless romantic creative team, as well as a reception with access to the DR Center gallery, currently showing Sketching Light: Chagall’s Windows for Union Church.

joseph webb

joseph webb is an interdisciplinary artist rooted in African diasporic vernacular dance, music, and African American Vernacular poetics. He expresses these mediums in the lineage of the African griot, serving as a vessel for embodied messages to come through. He was showcased in the Tony Award-winning Broadway production Bring in ‘da Noise Bring in ‘da Funk,’ among numerous other productions.
