Award-winning costume designer, set designer, and performance artist Machine Dazzle developed “The Painting,” a series of stories and songs exploring his complicated relationship with his father, during a Culpeper artist residency at The Pocantico Center in January 2020. On March 24, via Zoom, Machine performed this work-in-process live, accompanied by music director Viva DeConcini and Gerard Kouwenhoven.
During his 2020 residency, Machine also recorded an in-depth conversation on stage at Pocantico with Elissa Auther, deputy director and chief curator at the Museum of Arts and Design, which is now available to stream at any time (below). Their conversation covers the origins of Machine’s career, the development of his distinctive style, and his show “Treasure,” which made its debut at Works & Process at the Guggenheim in September 2019.
