The New Cuban Masters

Ticket price: $16.75

“Kalí’s bristling tone and bilingual fluency has commanded attention in New York.”

Wall Street Journal

Latin Grammy-nominated trumpeter and composer Kalí Rodríguez-Peña (La Habana, Cuba, 1992) and his quintet will present The New Cuban Masters, Rodríguez-Peña’s newest project comprising some of the rising stars of New York’s Cuban music scene.

Created to revive and sustain the legacy of Cuban composers from the last two centuries, the project features the music of seminal singer-songwriter Maria Teresa Vera (1895–1965) as well as original compositions commissioned by Harlem Stage’s 2023 WaterWorks Emerging Artists program.

“One of the ideas behind this project is to expand the idea of what people think Cuban music is by presenting genres and artists that they might not be familiar with,” Rodríguez-Peña says.

A reception will follow the performance.

Presented in partnership with the Culpeper Arts & Culture Program and the Cuban Artists Fund.
