World Bank Loans Encourage Fossil Fuel Dependency

Bank Information Center consultant Heike Mainhardt-Gibbs, author of the RBF-funded study, "World Bank Energy Sector Lending: Encouraging the World's Addiction to Fossil Fuels", will defend her latest findings in a panel discussion at the Civil Society Policy Forum at the 2009 World Bank/International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings from April 25-26.  The research sheds light on how World Bank loans to developing countries are intensifying climate change, and urges the World Bank to rethink its lending strategy with regard to lowering global CO2 emissions.
