RBF Grantee Partners with the BBC to Investigate Global Asbestos Trade

The Center for Public Integrity's International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and the British Broadcasting Corporation's (BBC) International News Services have unveiled a nine-month investigation, focusing on the global trade of asbestos. A cancer-causing fiber that is banned or restricted in 52 countries, asbestos is heavily marketed in developing countries as an inexpensive building material. The project, "Dangers in the Dust: Inside the Global Asbestos Trade," led reporters and producers to document activities in Brazil, Canada, China, India, Mexico, Russia, and the United States.

While the Rockefeller Brothers Fund did not fund this project, it provides general support to the Center for Public Integrity for its work in promoting the transparency, accountability, and responsiveness of government institutions, with special attention to the importance of investigative journalism.
