Michael Northrop: Is the Post-Fossil Fuel Era Now Inevitable?

As scientists warn that global temperatures are reaching dangerous levels, other experts hope that global pledges to mitigate climate change have also reached a pivotal point. In an essay for The Huffington Post, the Fund’s Sustainable Development program director, Michael Northrop, reflects on the atmosphere of the UN climate conference in Paris and highlights 80 agreements and achievements which contributed to the landmark meeting.

The whirlwind of activity involved national, regional, and city governments, multinational corporations, and other organizations who announced major pacts to reduce carbon emissions and increase sustainable practices. Although the accomplishments are impressive, Northrop cautions there is still much work to be done. Now more than ever, he says, the momentum from Paris must continue to build.
