Mayor Michael Bloomberg Announces Updates for PlaNYC

On Thursday, April 21, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented an updated agenda with new goals for PlaNYC, the city's landmark effort to ensure long-term sustainability and improve all aspects of the city's environment, including land, water, and climate change. New initiatives include plans to install solar power plants on capped landfills, offer loans to businesses to help pay for energy-efficient upgrades, and launch a program to help buildings switch to cleaner heating fuels.

A grantee of the Fund's Sustainable Development and New York City programs, one major goal of PlaNYC is to reduce the city's greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030. Michael Northrop, director for the Fund's Sustainable Development program serves on the Sustainability Advisory Board that oversaw the development of the plan, which was unveiled in 2007.
