Annual Reviews

The RBF’s Annual Reviews provide readers with annual highlights of the Fund’s programs, grantmaking, and finances as a reflection of our commitment to accountability, transparency, and sustainability. Each year, we focus on an issue central to the Fund's mission.

1973

The 1973 annual report focuses on the Rockefeller Brothers Fund's New York City program and its evolution over the years. The Fund has a history of providing general support to the city since the Fund's inception. An in-depth illustrated essay chronicles the Fund's local giving over the years to the city's social, cultural, educational, and neighborhood development organizations.

1972

The Rockefeller Brothers Fund celebrates the life of founding brother Winthrop Rockefeller in the 1972 annual report. A tribute essay reflects on the life of Mr. Rockefeller from his time in the Texas oil fields, to his philanthropic efforts to support education and health care, and onto his many accomplishments as governor of Arkansas.

1971

In the 1971 annual report, President Dana S. Creel discusses the importance of viewing the nation's problems from a holistic perspective, by understanding that many of the country's issues are interconnected.

1970

The 1970 annual report notes that the Rockefeller Brothers Fund reaches a milestone; a total of more than $100 million has been awarded since the Fund's inception. In 1970 alone, the RBF made more than 232 contributions, totaling over $9.9 million.

1969

The 1969 annual report highlights the Rockefeller Brothers Fund's grantmaking for the year, which included an award given to the Cooperative Assistance Fund, an organization dedicated to increasing the economic and housing opportunities for minority groups.

1968

The 1968 annual report highlights the Rockefeller Brother Fund's grantmaking during the previous year, which included 27 grants that dealt with race relations and urban-specific problems.

1967

The 1967 annual report notes that 99 general program and 78 special programs grants were awarded in the previous year, totaling $7.2 million.

1966

The 1966 annual report lists the 97 general program grants and 73 special program grants given in the previous year. In total, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund awarded more than $6.5 million.

1965

This year marked the 25th anniversary of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The 1965 annual report notes that $60 million has been given in grants since the Fund's creation in 1940.

1964

The 1964 annual report features a special projects study on performing arts in the U.S, which concluded that its state is in trouble. The report suggests courses of action that both private and public entities could take to help the arts survive and grow.
