Invisible Hands: Tapestry Weavers and Artists
On this episode of Haptic and Hue, Pocantio Collections Manager Katrina London discusses Jacqueline de la Baume Durrbach's 20 year journey weaving Picasso's paintings into tapestries, which now hang at Kykuit. Looking at the process of collaboration that goes on between an artist and a weaver to produce a new work, they ask if tapestry weavers are forever destined to be seen as anonymous helping hands, or if their skill, craft and artistry are now, finally, beginning to be recognized as an art in its own right.
