Michèle Wije, Ph.D., curator at the American Federation of Arts and of the recent exhibition Sparkling Amazons: Abstract Expressionist Women of the 9th St. Show (Katonah Museum of Art), will examine two masterful Grace Hartigan paintings on view at Kykuit—City Life (1956) and Salome (1963)—and place them within the context of the artist’s oeuvre and the work of her peers.
