Unchopping a Tree Video Debuts

Can we save two birds with one tree? Artist and architect, Maya Lin, founder of What Is Missing Foundation, an RBF grantee, raises awareness of the critical link between deforestation and global warming in her video, "Unchopping a Tree."  It made its official debut on MTV's billboard in Times Square on April 22, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

Lin worked with another RBF grantee, Creative Time, to produce "Unchopping a Tree," which is part of her latest and final memorial, "What is Missing?"  This project is an untraditional memorial that presents both an urgent vision of how the natural world is disappearing within our lifetime and a hopeful model for shaping future history. In an effort to engage the widest audience possible, "What Is Missing?" uses sculpture, video, sound installation, hand-held electronics, printed material and an interactive Web site.
