Nonprofit Dance Makes Big Impact on New York City, Report Finds

Posted on 11/17/2011 in Pivotal Place: New York City

Nonprofit dance organizations are significant contributors to New York City's economy and residents' quality of life, according to a report published by Dance/NYC, a branch of Rockefeller Brothers Fund grantee Dance USA. The report, State of NYC Dance, also found that the city's dance organizations—particularly smaller groups—demonstrate a "strong start-up culture of dance," with a handful of staff producing high levels of new creations. The Fund supported the publication as a part of Dance/NYC's strategic plan development. Other support came from The New York Community Trust and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
