Applying for a Grant

Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to read through the Rockefeller Brothers Fund's program guidelines and view recently awarded grants for examples of the Fund's current funding focus.  Applicants may also find the eligibility quiz helpful in determining whether a proposed project is compatible with the Fund's funding priorities.

The RBF's grantmaking is extremely limited in relation to the large number of worthwhile requests it receives - in 2008 the Fund received approximately 1,100 grant requests and made 329 grants.

The Letter of Inquiry is the starting point for applying for a grant from the RBF. Each LOI is carefully reviewed by Fund staff for fit within RBF guidelines and funding priorities. Staff will invite applicants to submit a full proposal when there is a match between the RBF's funding focus and a proposed project.

The links below will guide applicants through the Fund's application and grantmaking processes.

The standard RBF letter of inquiry process does not apply for the Charles E. Culpeper Arts & Culture grants.  Grant seekers must submit proposals through the arts and culture online application. Details on the application process and the online application can be found on the Charles E. Culpeper Arts & Culture Grants: Application Guidelines page.

We have undertaken a strategic review of one portion of the Peace and Security program in order to reevaluate our guidelines and refocus our priorities based on our experiences to date and the changing global context. The Peace and Security program has concluded its 2009 grantmaking and is not in a position to make any further financial commitments this year. Please see the Peace and Security update to learn more.
